Sara and Buddy Upstate New York Engagement Session

Upstate New York, in the fall, is probably the best time of the year to shoot.  The weather isn’t humid since summer is gone, it’s not bitterly cold just yet and you have plenty of fall colors to work with as your backdrop.  Add that all together with an awesome couple like Sara and Buddy and you have yourself a great recipe!  We met up at Buddy’s ranch in Swan Lake, drove around the property to see what would make for a good photo.
Sara mentioned that Buddy loves fishing, that if he could, he would do it every single day.  So it was only natural that we’d start down by the lake!  After we explored a couple of other trails at his property, we headed over to Buddy’s good friend Zac’s place who makes amazing metal sculptures (click here to see some of his work).  Working with the metal and rustic scenes with such a serene and natural backdrop was really a great experience.
We walked around the fields, saw a few horses which the horse whisperer, Sara, effortlessly got to look at the camera…Buddy was having no part in that!  It really was a perfect fall afternoon.  I told Sara and Buddy that I wanted to do a photo similar to the Riven (seen here) one I did a few months ago in the desert, with the stars bright in the sky.  It was a cloudy night, but as luck would have it, as soon as we pull up to the lake in pitch black darkness, the clouds just moved off the sky.
It was a perfect way to end an amazing and super fun engagement session.  Thank you for having me Sara and Buddy and I can't wait to shoot your wedding in September!
